Oh, I love this song too! Basically I think she's just trying to say that she doesn't have to do anything crazy to prove her love. Her decision shouldn't be the "make or break" of the relationship.

It's from Cupid's Chokehold by the Gym Class Heroes and it goes "I know I'm young but if I had to choose her or the son I'd be one nocturnal son of a gun."

I'm afraid that I haven't been able to comprehend the meaning of all of the metaphors in the piece.

What is the meaning of T.S. Eliot's poem, "The Love Song of J. Alfred Prufrock"?
It could take a lifetime to understand the meaning of J Alfred Prufrock - and for many they spend just that long trying. You simply cannot understand this poem by taking it on the surface. That is not where its meaning lies.

Basically, Mr. Eliot is responding to the world around him - the changes that the 20th century brought - things that no one ever thought would happen. Azure has given you one interpretation - a trite and superficial one. It goes MUCH deeper than that.

The yellow smoke - that is the key to what is on Mr. Eliot's mind. We are talking chlorine gas here - the major weapon of WW1. Mr. Eliot isnt worried about what people will think about him when he gets old. He is worried about whether or not he will have the opportunity to get old. Will there be time? He uses the fragmented, train of conscience style to show his fears for the future - not HIS future but THE future. What isnt important here are the little things, but rather the big things they represent. Did anyone believe that the world could change like that? No.

This is the fin du siecle period - the period at the end of the 19th and beginning of the 20th century - without a doubt the most frightening time in society. Weapons of mass destruction - chemical in nature - were now capable of killing literally unknown numbers of people in an instant.

Is it any wonder he wonders if he dares to disturb the universe? Or is it more that he wonders if there will be a universe left to disturb?

Do not reduce this work to a recitation of the trite meanings of the metaphors Eliot chooses to use - start understanding that Eliot is talking about a modern world - a world where art, literature and history all come togther. Never separate the three - literature and art are always a reflection of the history of the times. Eliot knew this. Deschamps is referred to in this work - does he not discuss descending a stair? Where do you suppose that comes from? A work of art where one person nude descending a stair becomes fragmented to represent many people.

If a teacher wants a simple recitation of what the metaphors refer to line by line, they cannot see the forest through the trees here. This is about fear - fear on a global level. His discussing his white pants and thinning hair are facetious remarks in a world where mustard gas can wipe out a generation in an instant.

Recently, there have been a few instances of chlorine gas attacks in Baghdad. When the first occurred, I shuddered. For Eliot called it -

To prepare a face to meet the faces that you meet;

How prophetic is that?

This is a poem about the hopelessness and despair of a society that has seen something no generation had ever seen before = WORLD war. It kind of connects us all, doesnt it? It puts us all in the same boat -- we are all victims. Think of how funny it sounds to worry about what color pants you are going to wear when the world is dying at your feet.

This is where Eliot was coming from. This is what makes the work powerful and takes it from a simple poem about a person worrying about getting old to a poem about a person worrying about the future of society.

Don't lessen this work. It's meaning is massive. Pax - C.

You hear him talking about how dirty London is, how a woman's arm is not really hairless, but covered with light hairs, how even though he is well dressed, people will talk about how thin he is getting and how he is going bald. Basically, he is saying that appearances are not decieving and then getting old sucks and that life is kind of a misery and that nothing is as beautiful as it seems. At the end he is kind of coming to a realization that it is a waste to get bogged down by the little details and he is trying to appreciate the small things in life like eating a peach or wearing his trousers the way he wants. But he still doesn't totally get it and he feels like his life is small and meadocre and the wonderful, fantasitc things have passed him by. Even the mermaids wouldn't be bothered to sing for him.

just think about the general tone and feel of the song (which you've got already). if a tune/melody comes along, run with it and the words will come together in your mind. remember, songs and poetry really don't have to rhyme, but if that would make it more comfortable for you, that's okay. also, try not to get frustrated and if you get stuck, calm down and read over what you have so far. i hope that helps!

I always recommend this one to anyone wanting a love song...."Two Hearts" by Zona Jones. It is such an awesome song.

I think "Two Sparrows in a Hurricane" by Tanya Tucker is a classic for that topic.

Have you ever seen or heard any of the music from the musical "We Will Rock You"? They have males and females singing all Queen songs, and a girl sings "Somebody to Love". She has quiet a low voice and it worked really well for her. I can't see it working for a soprano voice... sorry! Try and get hold of that soundtrack though if you like Queen! It's very cool!
Reply:Yes, Anna Hathaway sang it in Ella Enchanted and she is a soprano. Its quite a hard song to master. The rhythm and pitch has to be very precise so you would need a lot of practice but nonetheless a great song and worthwhile if you choose to learn it.
Reply:Freddy Mercury's voice is pretty high, so you might be ok singing it. Have you practiced yet? If it feels to low for you, you might want to sing it in a different key. Most accompient music comes in 3 different keys for you to sing.
Reply:Yes and no. You see, with Queen, it may be difficult to sing any of their songs with only one specific vocal range. Queen has an incredibly large range of notes in most of their songs. Somebody to love stays high for most of the song, and has some great potential.

There are a few sections however, such as when they chant "Find me somebody to love, Find me somebody to love" Where the song gets extremelly low. In other words, i think you should give it a go!!

Wow, that's a tough one. I know I want at least two wedding dances - "Maybe I'm Amazed" by Paul McCartney and "God Only Knows" by the Beach Boys. Then Paul Stookey's (of Peter, Paul %26amp; Mary) "Wedding Song (There Is Love)" is one that could probably replace "Maybe I'm Amazed" at this point. "God Only Knows" has recently become the must-have. I remember hearing Bob Welch's "Sentimental Lady" and being so struck by how it reminded me of her I automatically made her a CD with the song on it - it is her song and that is what makes it so incredibly beautiful to me. Badfinger's "Day After Day" is another one that brought her presence to me from the beginning. A bit kooky, yes, and I wish to FSM I could take the lyrics "I remember holding you while you sleep, every day I feel the tears that you weep" right out it because I find them a bit creepy, but it is the chorus that gets me. "Time In A Bottle" is the one that fits our current situation, and a simply gorgeous love song. Oh, and Billy Joel's "She's Got A Way"! Whoa. For some reason "She's Always A Woman" is one of my favorite love songs as well, has been since I was young, even though it's about a rather unkind woman in essence. Gets me more than "She's Got A Way". Elton John's "Your Song" is another one of our favorites. I'd like the "Ave Maria" to be playing when she walks down the aisle (I know, so many godly songs for such a lowly atheist as myself!).And I love Seger's "We've Got Tonight" and Joe Cocker's "You Are So Beautiful". Whoa. Yeah, I love music, especially when it brings her to me when she cannot be there physically. Lennon's "Woman". "Faithfully" by Journey, however cheesy that sounds. My best friend from college, Josh, used to dance with me to Nanci Griffith's "There's A Light Beyond These Woods (Mary Margaret)". I loved Josh beyond words and that song almost always moves me to tears now. It is more a best friend love song then one that would describe a lover. As a gay man, Josh (and I) never had that underlying romantic worry. Griffith also sings a song called "Morning Song For Sally" that always brought me to tears, although it is more of a breakup song than anything, and one I knew at a very difficult time in my life. George Harrison's "Here Comes The Sun". Simon %26amp; Garfunkel - "Kathy's Song", "Bridge Over Troubled Water", "Song For The Asking" - we love all of these. "Isn't She Lovely" by Stevie Wonder for sure. Van Morrison's "Sweet Thing" and "These Are The Days" (ah, that one is gorgeous!). And Vusi Mahlasela's "Silang Mabele". It may or may not be a love song (haven't gotten the lyrics to translate, nor anyone who might be able to translate them. I know Black Dragon is trying for me). Oh, Loki, it's so moving, so lovely.

For me, it's Invincible by Muse, or Starlight. The vocals and music just go so well together and it makes me feel something whenever I listen to it.
